NATIONAL DAY of ACTION for HOUSING

HerStory Ensemble participated in the National Day of Action for Housing held in Washington,D.C.  Members travelled as far as North Carolina to be part of this public witness for the need for more affordable housing, and for the protection of the humanity and dignity of people experieincing homelessness on every level. We were able to share about the work and progress of our quest for a Homeless Bill of Rights for the State of Delaware.  Senate Bill 49 was recently filed and seeks to protect people who are experiencing homelessness from discrimination.  It assures that all people, regardless of housing status equal opportunity tolive in decent, safe, secure, and affordable housing, and provides protection of the humanity and dignity of people experiencing homelessness on every level while seeking housing, employment, and services.

"Homelessness affects millions of people each year, including a rising number of families with children. . . The criminalization of homelessness violates fundamental human rights. All of us, especially our children, deserve to live in a world guided by love.  Current policies and practices need to reflect and honor our shared humanity, instead of perpetuating injustice. It is time for collective love and action.  We owe it to each other, our children and our children's children"- Rajni Shankar-Brown, Board Member, National Coalition for the Homeless.
